“Amerika before Grandpa” – A Special Event Speaker from Norway

Sons of Norway Jotunheimen Lodge Billings is host a Special Guest Speaker from Norway!

Talk by Torly Bilstad: “Grandpa left Norway for Amerika in 1905, and stayed for 16 years.”

The speaker will “go way back to the ice age when “immigrants” arrived from Siberia to Alaska. I proceed to the Vikings from my area in Norway; Eric the red and his son Leif. Then Columbus arrived and mostly destroyed the original culture in South America, and brought the valuables to Sevilla in Spain. I go through the indian nations around the great lakes, the French and English “intruders”, and how the US handled the indian challenge, and open for settlers from Europe. Norwegians account for 32 % the population of North Dakota, “The Great Land Grab”. Wounded Knee ends the native Indians, as you know. I conclude with famous Norwegians over the years, who did not go back to the old country; including Mr. Bakken; The Bakken Field of unconventional oil & gas in N.D. (one million barrels/day).
